Buddha Purnima Celebration in South Korea 2022

In Korea the birthday of Buddha is celebrated according to the lunar calendar. This day is called “Seokga tansinil”, meaning "Buddha's birthday" or “Bucheonim osin nal” meaning "the day when the Buddha came". It falls on the eighth day of the fourth month according to the lunar calendar and this year the celebration falls on May 6th. It is also good to note that Buddha’s birthday is celebrated on different days depending on the country that celebrates it. Buddha’s birthday is not only a holiday for the 15 million people who pray at Buddhist temples all over Korea on a daily basis, but a public holiday enjoyed by everyone.

We Jummas are excited to update the images of our latest Buddha Purnima that took place on May 15, 2022. This is the first time that we have organized a ritual gathering since the start of covid-19 pandemic. The program was held at the Lotus Lantern Meditation Centre.

On behalf of the JPNK team, we like to thank each and everyone who participated in this program.

We would also like to convey our heartiest thanks to Hyedahl Sunim. He is a Jumma Buddhist monk who has been living in South Korea for more than 20 years. Without him this program wouldn't have possible.

May all being be happy and peaceful.
